My wife gets home from her shift in the Cardiac ICU and the look on her face says "I've had a day."
"It's Cheryl again, she won't get off my back. And on top of it my patient almost coded. I couldn't catch a break today."
"Well, have you tried going to your charge nurse about it?"
After 3 "perfect" recommendations on how she could get Cheryl off her back, the look on my wife's face said "I think I'd rather be back at work."
A glower and 10 minutes of short responses later.
"Matt, sometimes I just want to talk."
These days, when I've got a perfect recommendation on the tip of my tongue, this moment flashes. And instead I say:
"It sounds like you couldn't even get a second to breathe."
(ok, most of the time.)
