Every week I walk 7 minutes to a coffee shop to write. $5.50 for a drip I call writing rent.
Yesterday, I'm walking home and see our mailman. I didn't expect him to recognize me. I glanced his way. He makes puzzled eye contact.
"Where do I know you from?"
"I live next door."
"Oh – you're the one with the adorable son. Matt, right?"
That did more for me than the cup of joe.
I keep 93 names in my notes app. Where I met them, one detail about each.
Just felt like the right thing to do.
A few months ago, I'm walking down the stairs at my gym and see a man I'd met a couple weeks before.
"Hey Omar."
He stopped. "No one remembers my name."
I'd just never been on the other end of it before.
