I was set to inherit a book of business producing $1,500,000 in revenue. Unlimited earning potential. I was already good enough to take over.
I quit.
2 years after completing my CFP, I hadn't read a single book, article, or finished a research report on investing.
In that same 2 years, I'd read Made to Stick, Talk Like TED, Storyworthy, Never Split the Difference, and about 20 others.
All on storytelling, communication, persuasion.
In August 2023, I'm on a plane to Europe, I cracked open Atlas Shrugged. Somewhere over the Atlantic, I read:
"To settle down into a job that requires less than your mind's full capacity is to cut your motor and sentence yourself to another kind of motion: decay."
I closed the book and knew I was done.
